Cochlear Implant Number Two!!!

Seth had his second cochlear implant yesterday.  The surgery went well!

Seth and daddy waiting for preop

Seth likes to rock.  This little motorcycle was in the waiting area.  He was tickled when he saw it.  He barely fit, but he was able to ride it for a bit.

He has had a sedative and is getting sleepy ... very sleepy

During surgery, I worried for both of us and Wayne slept!  It's a gift, he can sleep anywhere!

After recovery, he woke up, drank apple juice and was ready to go home!
But not before a new set of No-Nos - he was thrashing and pulling at his
bandage, so the hospital gave us a new pair to protect him.

Waiting for the car!

The next picture is graphic, so stop reading here if you do not want to see the surgical pictures.
Grace said, "That's the inside of his ear???!!! Disgusting!"  So you've been warned.

These pictures show the hole that was drilled, and where the wires and electrodes are inserted.

Cochlear Implant Surgery - GRAPHIC picture WARNING

Hey friends --- this post contains graphic inner ear pictures .... if that kind of stuff wigs you out, you better skip this blog post :)

Seth went for surgery on 7/9
The surgery was a success and recovery has been awesome.
He will be activated in another week.  We will have a several hour appointment where they turn the device on and then map the sound.  This site has a much more elloquent explination of mapping than I could offer.  If you are interested in the technical stuff, read this http://cochlearimplantonline.com/site/mapping-a-cochlear-implant/
