My HOT MESS - Year End School Room Clean Out

Life gets crazy busy sometimes and things get out of control!

My school rooms were crazy out of control!

So out of control, I did not know where to start.

To start, I moved furniture and swept the floor ...

One shoe ... one sock ... wedgets .... kitty toys ... peg stackers ... books .... papers ... a recorder top ...pencils ... giant tweezers and lots of ...dirt ....

It took nearly the whole weekend and week of working on it of and on as time allowed
and when I had a helper to keep the kids from "helping" me.

I worked until my bones ached!!!!

I filled a 50 gallon trash can!

BUT everything is now back in its place.

Where these wire racks are, I had a gigantic piece of wooden furniture and
it blocked the natural light coming in from the windows.
The wire racks really open the room. and make it inviting vs dungeonesque!

Next week's project is to re-basket and apply color coded stickers to  all the books.

I am accepting volunteers to help with this project ... come on over!  I have coffee!

These books, on the floor. were our book basket books for MFW Adventures, they came out of the school rooms and need to go to a high shelf.  I needed Wayne's help to do that.

School - Science and Cooking Class

This week we studied water, which materials absorb water efficiently, which material retain strength when wet and had a ball!!!!  Anything that is messy is fun!!!

Our materials included; tissues, paper towels, coffee filters, dish cloths, plastic wrap and aluminum foil.

First we tested which materials absorbed well.

Even the little ones got in on the action!

We tested which matereials retained strength wehn wet.

We have been studying George Washington as well.

We made Johnny Cakes and a Cherry Pie.

Johnny cakes are a pancake that is made out of corn meal vs. wheat flour.

We served they with molasses, apple butter and applesauce.  The kids were not fond of the molasses.

The cherry pie came from the story of George chopping down the cherry tree.

Hopie SLATHERED on the molasses ... too much ... it was inedible.  But she was adventuress and tried it.

Chronicling Kindergarten

I cannot believe my little Faith will be starting Kindergarten.  I am going to chronicle her kindy year here.

We started her first project yesterday; a My Father's World Remembrance Quilt.  We made a quilt for each of the big kids in their kindy year rather than making the badges that My Father's World recommends.  In each unit, a letter, an object and a biblical concept is taught.  For example, "S" is the Sun with the biblical concept of Jesus is the light of the world.

The green fabric is for the front of the quilt, the paisley fabric is the back of the quilt and the ribbon will make the squares --- yep, it is a cheater quilt. :)

... And just for fun and because I love the so much, here are the big kids quilts.
